From hot pants to hot yoga, there’s never been a shortage in “getting your groove on.” But what happens when your muscles ache, grow rigid, and stay stiff? Getting groovy and feeling good quickly becomes much, much harder.
Flexibility has always been any health-conscious souls go-to healing tool. It makes room for mobility and energy. Flexibility allows you to move your body confidently and comfortably.
Get this. Increasing your flexibility even releases stored physical tension and emotional blockages for greater wellness, longevity, and life-long peace.
Who doesn’t want that? The only catch with incorporating this life-changing technique is that it requires three specific ingredients. These ingredients are a must and they must come from within you. We have heard from so many of our incredible students, “How do I become more flexible?” Well, here it is. Here are the three most important tricks for greater, sustained flexibility to throw into your magic bag of healing:
1. Patience & Compassion
This is the one most of us do not want to hear. This is the one mom and dad worked really hard to MAKE SURE we knew. Our schoolteachers, bosses, best friends and even nature it(her)self have all done a great job reminding us about the significance of patience. However, it doesn’t make the pill any easier to swallow. That’s why we, all of us at Urban Fit Yoga, encourage you to couple compassion with your patience. The road to flexibility is a long one. It is the succession of thousands of baby steps that carry your body to peak performance and wellness. All of which are why we invite you to be kind to yourself and your body along this journey. And… you want to know a secret? The more compassion and patience you extend yourself and your body, the faster you’ll slip into greater mobility and flexibility. 2. Commitment Tagged along with patience comes commitment. Sure, we can be kind and accepting of ourselves but we must also do the work. We have to take time out of our day to show up for ourselves. Whether that means taking class or watching an online video, it is imperative that our intention is followed by action! Create a routine for yourself. Create an incentive structure that you can’t resist. Create anything that sparks your internal fire to commit. Whatever you do, just make sure you create create create (and of course, commit to your creation). 3. Awareness This is a crucial but sometimes confusing one. Awareness is a pretty vague word and is associated with all sorts of meaning. You may have heard it referred to as mindfulness or internal listening. Perhaps, you have even stumbled across something more abstract like energy or force. However, it’s not the name that matters. It’s your understanding of it. At this point, you might be thinking: why is it so important to understand what awareness means to me? Well, sweet yogi, this third element of awareness is going to be your flexibility safety net. Expanding your awareness of where your body is in space and how it feels in that space grants you access to deeper levels of connection. This mind-body connection supports injury prevention and structural alignment. And most importantly, possessing the ability to hear and interrupt your body’s internal cues is going to be the key to extended prosperity and a vibrant, healthy life. The best way to start practicing awareness, commitment, and patience, you ask? Sign up for a yoga class that resonates with you. Yes, it’s that easy. Your health is your future. Let's start building a great one together. All of us at Urban Fit Yoga are here to support you through this process, every step of the way. Are you ready? These are some informative tips. Stretching is essential for fitness and body growth. My mom told me before to always stretch in the morning. It can help stabilize your bone growth. I also stretch whenever I go to the gym. I would really like to suggest this guide to those who would like to become more flexible.
