Whether you practice yoga in Houston, in another state, another country, in a studio, outside, or in the comfort of your home, the benefits that you receive from your practice go well beyond that which you feel while you’re on your mat.
When I walk into the doctor’s office, it has routinely felt like drawing a wild card. There are, of course, fairly confident hypotheses I could make based on my relationship to my body, past visits, online health forums and, for the most part, by simply assessing how I feel day-to-day.
I want to confess something, something that has been weighing heavily on my mind and heart. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that lately, I have been feeling down; with all that is being revealed in the news, threats between leaders, mass shootings, sexual assault – I sometimes find it hard to remain positive and not let all the sadness get to me.
Halloween has come and gone and let me tell you it has been quite the fight for, yet ultimately, loss of self-control; I won’t lie to you, I have definitely snuck into my kids treats on several occasions. And odds are, I will probably sneak in a few more times before they are completely gone.
And with the holidays fast approaching, the temptations become even more enticing. On top of all that, weekends seem to book up fast, with parties, holiday events, and trying to make sure that I have everything that I need to get done completed in time for the holidays.
I love this time of year, I really do. As we speak, the front of my house is covered in Halloween decorations, from cobwebs with spiders, to spooky ghosts and hanging lights. I love getting into the spirit of the season, with my two young boys getting excited to dress up and go trick-or-treating, I find myself becoming excited as well.
You have one hour to:
For most of us, this isn’t that hard to imagine. This is your every day. Every morning you hustle and, every morning you are a rockstar.
There you are. Standing at the top of your mat. Heaving in tadasana. Perspiration gushing. Your self-consciousness and sweat puddle expanding at rates only the Buddha is comfortable with.
You have already tried to hide it. Everyone knows. Isn’t it obvious you created a pool for the whole class to cannon ball into? How could anyone ignore you’re not doing yoga anymore? It’s clear you are swimming laps… right?
Wellness is the new "diet." It’s the new buzzword attracting health gurus and enthusiasts by the masses. However, most of us are still left confused, distracted, and frankly, a little uninspired by what we’ve come to discover. Anyone can claim that they are incorporating wellness. We can all sprinkle the word around like a Houston afternoon rain shower but, it does not mean any of us truly know what wellness is, let alone how to embody it throughout our day-to-day.
