Athletes all over the world are embracing yoga as a routine that compliments their athletic pursuits. The former World Cup German soccer team drew headlines recognizing their unique, yoga-infused training on their way to dominating on the world stage. The Seattle Seahawks, under head coach and yoga practitioner Pete Carroll, won a Super Bowl and became perennial contenders while adopting yoga as a daily routine for recovery and meditation. In all arenas and at all levels, yoga for athletes is catching on, helping yoga break out out of its stereotype.

Being a beginner at yoga is not a topic often talked about. Social media sites are often flooded with articles on how to enhance your already existing practice, like hip-opening sequences, or how to tell if your Chakras are out of balance. We often forget that we were all at one point, beginners and that even though the yoga world is always growing and expanding, there are still many who are nervous or not quite ready to take the step and join this wonderful journey of self-discovery and transformation.

… like, who would dump expired eggs into the exposed rays of Houston’s sun? Turns out, no one. It was just the raw, human stench of determination and bliss — and this was my introduction to Houston hot yoga.
Whether you practice yoga in Houston, in another state, another country, in a studio, outside, or in the comfort of your home, the benefits that you receive from your practice go well beyond that which you feel while you’re on your mat.
I love this time of year, I really do. As we speak, the front of my house is covered in Halloween decorations, from cobwebs with spiders, to spooky ghosts and hanging lights. I love getting into the spirit of the season, with my two young boys getting excited to dress up and go trick-or-treating, I find myself becoming excited as well.
